CM to participate in Government sponsored Kati Bihu celebration

Mangaldai  :  Along with the rest of the State, the farmer families of Darrang district are going to observe the ‘Kati Bihu’ festival on Saturday evening with lightening of traditional lamps on the paddy field praying for a good harvest. This Kati Bihu celebration in the flood ravaged district will be a special as for the first time government is publicly organising the festival where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is stated to participate as the chief guest. According to an official report the festival is scheduled to be celebrated ceremonially at Mangaldai Bamunpara paddy field on Saturday afternoon. The district administration is thus preparing to illuminate the area altogether with one thousand earthen lamps by equal nos of women in traditional Assamese attire. Just when government will be celebrating the festival in grand manner amidst COVID pandemics, a large no of farm families in many flood hit areas of the district will have to pass the day in a dismal manner before their barren farm fields. It is worth mentionable that the recent waves of floods in the district have damaged altogether 36,153 hectare area of farm land with variety of crops including Sali seedlings, Sali transplanted, Maize, Jute and vegetables belonging to as many as 42,324 farmer families of 388 villages as a whole under three Agri Subdivisions of District Agriculture Department.
