North East Political Parties Meet At Guwahati, BJP Ally JD-U Extends Support To AGP On Citizenship Bill

Guwahati : A delegation of the Janata Dal (United) JD(U) led by Rajya Sabha MP KC Tyagi on January 28th, 2019 met the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leaders at AGP’s headquarters in Ambari to discuss the Citizenship (Amendment )Bill 2016 issue. The delegation held talks with the AGP leaders and laid a series of discussion on the controversial Bill and also took stock of the ramifications of the CAB. Addressing the joint press conference, Chief General Secretary and National Spokesperson of the Janata Dal, KC Tyagi said that the Congress will play a crucial role at the Rajya Sabha and the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 depends on their stand at the upper house. The MP also said that if the congress boycotts the Rajya Sabha session no one can stop the from getting implemented. JDU also cleared their stand to oppose the citizenship Bill at the Rajya Sabha. Along with Tyagi, party Vice President Prashant Kishor, NSN Lotha and Afaque Ahmad Khan is scheduled to meet the leaders of the political parties of the North East at Guwahati to discuss on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and its fall out, creating flutter amongst the BJP as most of them are NDA constituent. Notably, a delegation of AASU had met JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar on 23 May 2018 and had apprised him of their apprehensions regarding the Bill.Meanwhile The political parties of the North East India are meeting tomorrow at Guwahati to discuss on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and its fall out, creating flutter amongst the BJP as most of them are NDA constitutent. As the protest against CAB has spread it from Assam to the other North Eastern Side and with Mizoram going to the extreme, the meeting assumed great significance. The meeting was convened by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. Most of these political parties are constituent of the North Eastern Democratic Alliance (NEDA), the meeting assumed greater significance. The BJP is trying to convince the constituents but the political parties of the region are nervous, as the CAB protest has reached alarming proportions bordering alienation.
