UDAN adds new wings to Dibrugarh Airport

GUWAHATI: UDAN programme of the Government of India has been recently adding more wings and feathers to its cap under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS).

With the aim of regional connectivity in mind, another flight from Dibrugarh airport to Imphal was started by domestic carrier Indigo on Monday under the RCS – UDAN programme of Government of India.

Flight number 6E 7948 (Indigo) will now be connecting Kolkata and Imphal with Dibrugarh, daily. The said flight will approximately take 1 hour and 15 Minutes to reach Imphal from Dibrugarh.

 R. Awasthi, Airport Director (Dibrugarh Airport), Gautam, Assistant Commandant (CISF) and other Airport Officials of AAI and Indigo and a few first passengers were present for the inaugural programme. Upon the arrival of the flight, the inaugural flight was welcomed by a water cannon salute.

Expressing his views on the inaugural flight, R. Awasthi, Airport Director said that the increase in the number of flights along with connecting various destinations is making Dibrugarh Airport an aviation hub for travellers from around the country and the world.

“The RCS- UDAN scheme has added wings to the existing travel experience especially for first time travelers. Presently, there are a maximum of nine flights departing from Dibrugarh Airport, handling around 1200 Passengers every day, amid covid-19 related advisory. And we are optimistic that once the restrictions are lifted, the Airport will reach its pre- Covid level air traffic growth enabling passengers more convenience in air travel,” Awasthi said.

Now Dibrugarh Airport is connected with four state capitals of North Eastern India namely, Guwahati, Agartala, Imphal and Dimapur.

The flights under the RCS- UDAN scheme have also managed to connect various remote areas of North-East India and helped to give the much needed boost to travel and trade.

 It has also reduced the travel time significantly and made travelling more convenient for passengers coming from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam with Manipur.

This is the third flight under RCS- UDAN scheme to start its operations from Dibrugarh Airport. The first flight connected Dibrugarh with Dimapur (presently the flight is suspended), while the second flight connected Dibrugarh with Agartala which is presently operating on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The Dibrugarh Airport is maintaining all covid-19 related protocols and mandating the RT-PCR testing facility available at Airport which is provided by the district administration.
