Cabinet approves continuation of Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan till 2025-26

New Delhi: Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved continuation of the revamped Centrally-sponsored scheme of Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan from the first of this month to 31st of March 2026. It will be extended to all States and Union Territories of the country. Briefing media in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said, this has been done to develop governance capabilities of Panchayati Raj Institutions. The decision will help 2.78 lakh rural local bodies to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. This will promote equity and inclusiveness along with social justice and economic development. It will also help in achieving improved service delivery and transparency.

The total outlay for this scheme is five thousand nine hundred 11 crore rupees with Central share of three thousand seven hundred crore rupees and State share will be two thousand two hundred eleven crore rupees.

The Minister said that under the revamped scheme, focus will be towards capacitating the elected representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions for Leadership Roles to develop an effective third tier of Government to enable them to deliver on localization of Sustainable Development Goals principally for nine themes. The themes are based on Poverty free and enhanced livelihood in villages, Healthy Village, Child-Friendly Village, Water Sufficient Village, Clean and Green Village, Self-Sufficient Infrastructure in Village, Socially Secured Village, Village with Good Governance, and Engendered Development in Village.
