Kokrajhar being one of the zonal screenings for COVID19: Health Minister

Assam Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Finance, Education Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited Kokrajhar and held a review meeting on novel coranavirus at Deputy Commissioner Conference hall in Kokrajhar with senior officers of district civil adminsiatrtion, police and health department.

 Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, MLA Rabiram Narzary, Kokrajhar DC Bhaskar Phukan, IGP Anurag Agarwal, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan and other senior officials of various departments were present in the meeting.

Talking to Reporters, the minister said the meeting discuss on the ground situation at the quarantine centres like quarantine facilities, testing facilities and treatment.

He said Kokrajhar being one of the zonal screenings for COVID19 thousands of people screened and quarantined but now “screening centre for other districts outside Bodoland region is being shifted in the respective districts. From 5 June Chirang and Baksa too will have its own testing centres which will further minimize the load in Kokrajhar, he said adding that more number of lab technician is now provided in Kokrahar screening centre so that sample collection can be carried out more rapidly and results declared in 4 days time.

He also said the district administration has been asked to ensure that home quarantine is maintained properly. He also said police personnel are carrying out awareness on social distancing, wearing masks among the public and even levy fine to those violating the norms.

The minister also stated that a passenger travelling Air route does not need to be quarantine if he returns the same day. In case of “land route too we can apply the same formula. But if he over stays the night and returns the next day than quarantine is a must, he said.

On opening of educational institutions in the state, the education minister said I personally wish that classes for class 10 and 12 be open at the earliest but the Central government has advised to take views of experts on this. “We will have a sitting with Principals, teachers and educationists and take their views and sent report to the central government on this. But I personally feel that it is good if we can start the classes for class 10 and 12 std, he said.

Stating that if we continue good work and 100 percent testing is done we can overcome the corona, the health minister called upon all to main social distancing and wear mask to fight the novel coranavirus.

Earlier the minister visited neighboring Dhubri district to take stock on COVID19 in the district.
