World’s Longest Human Chain for Mental Health and Peace Creates a World Record in Chennai on World Mental Health Day
Chennai: In a powerful display of unity and compassion, R.B. Gothi Jain College for Women, Redhills, successfully organized the World’s Longest Human Chain for Mental Health and Peace on the occasion of World Mental Health Day 2025. The event achieved a world record recognition by the Grand Universe Book of Records, marking a proud milestone for Chennai and for India.
Over 1600 participants, including students, educators, healthcare professionals, and members of the community, joined hands at the college campus in Redhills to form a human chain symbolizing hope, empathy, and collective strength. The initiative aimed to create awareness about mental health, reduce stigma, and promote emotional well-being, peace, and happiness among all sections of society.
Speaking about the achievement, Dr. M. Mahalakshmi, Principal of R.B. Gothi Jain College for Women and Chairperson – HCMAP, said “We are immensely proud to see so many people come together for this cause. This human chain reflects the power of unity and the importance of collective responsibility in nurturing mental wellness. It’s not just a record — it’s a movement toward kindness and emotional resilience.”

Adding to this, Dr. G. Prashanth Krishna, Director of Prashanth Hospitals, said “Mental health is just as vital as physical health, yet it often receives far less attention. By supporting initiatives like this, we hope to encourage open dialogue, timely intervention, and community support so that no one suffers in silence. This event is a reminder that together, we can heal, help, and bring hope.
The event was organized by R.B. Gothi Jain College for Women, with the support of Prashanth Hospitals, Kolathur, and the Lions Clubs of Chennai – Redhills King and National Institute of Psychology. Through this record-breaking event, participants reaffirmed their commitment to breaking the silence around mental health and building a more empathetic and peaceful world.
