The rural areas of Ukhrul and Nopa in Mizoram’s neighboring state of Manipur, as well as the Champhai district bordering Myanmar in Mizoram, have suffered. Champhai is the area most affected by the earthquake in Champhai districts of Mizoram.Champhai District Deputy Commissioner Maria CT Juali said that in many villages people have built temporary tents and are staying there. The district administration has provided tarpaul, water barrels, solar lamps and first aid kit to many people. Officials said that biscuits and sorajo (food supplement) are also being given to elderly people. According to the Deputy Commissioner, Champhai district has been affected by about 25 earthquakes in a month.Officials said that more than 16 villages have been damaged in the quake, with more than 170 houses including churches and community halls damaged. People are afraid to go to their homes and that is why they are living in tents. Although Mizoram earthquake zone is 5, the affected areas now face earthquakes, intermediate earthquakes and aftershocks at the same time.This has made life difficult for local people with difficulties in managing coronovirus as well as even earthquake problems. Earthquake is causing fear of people. In these conditions it is difficult to maintain the coronavirus (Kovid-19) protocol. Nevertheless, the villagers maintain a tight watch against the viral epidemic.
