Peravoor (Kerala: Congress General Secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday accused the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala of having a secret understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre, claiming it explained the lack of central action against alleged irregularities in the state.

Addressing a corner meeting here, Ms. Vadra said the last ten years had seen the complete collapse of governance systems in Kerala, marked by rising debt, growing unemployment, and peak levels of corruption.

“It is pretty obvious that there is a secret deal between the LDF and the BJP,” she asserted. “We have seen a massive theft at Sabarimala Temple, but not a single word from the Prime Minister and no inquiry.”

She pointed out the selective action of central agencies, noting that everyone who opposes Prime Minister Narendra Modi faces cases from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other agencies, “but there has not been a single case against the Kerala Chief Minister.”

Ms. Vadra criticised the “arrogance” that had developed among those in power after a decade in office. “When in power for ten years, a certain kind of arrogance has grown among the Chief Minister and his ministers, as there is no sense of responsibility and accountability that every leader should have,” she said.

She alleged that the Left Front had compromised its ideology to remain in power. Referring to attacks on minorities and religious institutions, she mentioned the beating of nuns in Chhattisgarh and harassment faced by the Missionaries of Charity under the BJP-led central government. “And LDF has chosen to make a deal with people who harass these sisters,” she remarked.

Praising the people of Kerala, Priyanka Gandhi said: “Your social fabric is strong and you have lived together for centuries. You are an example for the rest of India.” She highlighted the diligence, intelligence, and high educational standards of Keralites, noting that she feels proud whenever she meets a Malayali anywhere in the world.

She urged the people to elect a government that is “sensitive to your needs” and focused on development. “You need a compassionate government which is prepared to listen to you and which has a vision and understanding of where Kerala needs to go,” she said.

Warning against communal politics and corruption, Ms. Vadra said Kerala has the potential to become a major healthcare hub, an IT services centre, and a well-planned tourism destination, while its agriculture sector — especially spices — could grow significantly.

She also expressed concern over the safety of Keralites working in the Middle East, saying lakhs of them were stuck there amid regional tensions. “Modi is too busy bowing to the US and Israel, and your CM is too busy bowing to Modi to make any provisions for these people,” she alleged.

“As an Indian, I feel sad that we are being led today by compromised leaders who are cowards,” she added.

Ms. Vadra announced five “Indira Guarantees” that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) would implement if voted to power in Kerala:

Free bus travel for women across the state

₹1,000 monthly cash assistance for all college-going girls

Welfare pensions increased to ₹3,000 per month, with a separate ministry for senior citizens

₹25 lakh health insurance cover for every family

Interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh for youth to start their own businesses

She also promised to increase compensation for losses due to human-animal conflict by 50 percent, ensure payment within seven days, and strengthen the early warning system.

The Congress leader called upon the people of Kerala to choose a government centred on development and focused on building a better future, rather than one operating through fear and oppression.1sFast
