SRMIST Student Selected for Apple Park at WWDC 2026 App Fair Draws Global Industry Leaders and Unlocks Internship & Incubation Opportunities
SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) hosted its flagship App Fair 2026, a celebration of student innovation, at the iOS Development Centre, SRMIST, bringing together global technology leaders, industry experts, and aspiring app developers under one roof. The event showcased cutting-edge, student-built applications and marked a major milestone as Mr. Shourya Thakur, a third-year B.Tech. Computing Technologies student at SRMIST, secured a coveted place in Apple’s global developer ecosystem, earning recognition at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026.
Organised as part of the iOS Student Developer Programme, the App Fair served as a dynamic platform where innovation met opportunity. Students presented a diverse portfolio of applications spanning AI-powered healthcare, productivity solutions, and socially impactful platforms, reflecting a strong emphasis on real-world problem solving and design thinking.
Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan lauded the students for their technical prowess and urged them to elevate their vision. “Innovation should not be confined to the walls of a classroom,” the Vice Chancellor stated. “I urge you to use the knowledge gained through this program to identify and solve the common, pressing problems in the world around you. True success lies in creating technology that has a tangible, positive impact on society.”
A defining highlight of the event was the recognition of SRMIST students in Apple’s prestigious Swift Student Challenge. Eleven students from the current cohort were selected among the top 350 global winners, with one student earning a Distinguished Winner title, placing him among the top 50 worldwide. This exceptional achievement has led to an exclusive invitation to Apple Park, Cupertino, as part of WWDC 2026, positioning SRMIST firmly on the global innovation map.
The selected student’s work has also opened pathways to advanced exposure within Apple’s ecosystem, often associated with opportunities to engage with Apple engineers and labs, further strengthening SRM’s presence in global app development circles.
The App Fair witnessed participation from leading companies including Infosys, Flipkart, Zomato, Swiggy, Zoho, Zimmify, and several emerging tech firms. Industry experts engaged directly with students, evaluating their applications and providing valuable insights.
Impressed by the quality and market readiness of the projects, several organizations expressed keen interest in offering internships, mentorships, and collaborative opportunities. The event reinforced SRMIST’s position as a talent hub, producing industry-ready graduates equipped with both technical expertise and entrepreneurial mindset.
Beyond app development, the programme demonstrated a strong focus on entrepreneurship and product lifecycle readiness. Students were supported through pre-incubation and incubation initiatives facilitated by the Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (DEI), enabling them to transform ideas into viable startups.
Notably, select student teams have already progressed toward startup registration, with multiple applications deployed across platforms including iOS, Android, and web ecosystems, signaling a shift from academic projects to scalable business solutions.
The iOS Development Centre at SRMIST continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing next-generation innovators. With a structured, industry-aligned learning model, the programme emphasizes hands-on development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and real-world impact.
Dr. Venkata Shastry, Director of Career Centre, Dr. Shantanu Patil, Director, DEI, Dr. R Ananth Kumar, Associate Director, DEI, Dr. Revathi Vankataraman, Chairperson, School of Computing, Dr. Pushpalatha M, Associate Chairperson and Dr. M Lakshmi, Head of NWC Department, Prof. Dr. Murugan A, Head of iOS App Development Centre were among many who partook in the event.
With over 6,000 students impacted, 30+ products developed, and more than 300 internship opportunities facilitated, the iOS Student Developer Programme at SRMIST stands as a benchmark for industry-integrated education in India.
App Fair 2026 was not just a showcase, it was a launchpad. By connecting students with global platforms like Apple, enabling incubation pathways, and fostering direct industry engagement, SRMIST continues to shape innovators ready to lead in the global digital economy.
