Pune : Two lives were saved and hundreds of warkaris received urgent medical care during Sumeet Group Enterprises’ annual CSR drive in which a fleet of advanced, European-standard ambulances were deployed along the Ashadhi Wari route. The three-day initiative, which ran from July 9 to 11, provided medical aid to warkaris navigating the physically demanding pilgrimage through Pune.

The life-saving interventions occurred at two high-pressure points of the yatra. In one incident, a devotee collapsed on Fergusson College Road and was stabilized on-site by medical teams before being rushed to Sassoon Hospital. In another instance at Dive Ghat, a patient received critical care inside a specialized ambulance before being transferred to Saswad Rural Hospital.

Alongside the mobile emergency units, Sumeet SSG set up medical camps at eight key locations including Pimpri, Bhosari, Peth areas and Hadapsar. Doctors at these camps treated a constant stream of devotees for dehydration, severe blisters, muscle fatigue and joint pain.

The high point of the operation was the field debut of Sumeet SSG’s new fleet, consisting of one Advanced Life Support (ALS) and two Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances. Outfitted with European-standard medical gear, these vehicles are currently undergoing rigorous field trials before being inducted in Maharashtra’s Emergency Medical Services (MEMS 108) network.

Summit Salunkhe, Executive Chairman of Sumeet Group Enterprises and Chairman of Sumeet SSG, stated:

“The Ashadhi Wari is a deeply spiritual journey, but it is also incredibly exhausting for the warkaris. Our goal this year was simple: bring world-class medical infrastructure directly to the streets to keep these pilgrims safe. We aren’t just launching a fleet of ambulances; we are building a robust, life-saving ecosystem for the entire state of Maharashtra.”

Sumeet Group has a long history of supporting the yatra through food distribution and post-event cleanliness drives. This year’s advanced medical push was executed via Sumeet SSG, an Indo-Spanish joint venture tasked with deploying and operating a massive 1,756-vehicle emergency response fleet under a 10-year partnership with the state government.
