Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad has earned recognition beyond Gujarat for its growing work in water conservation and community-led environmental initiatives, with Dr. Mayur Joshi, Managing Trustee of Ahmedabad-based Udgam Charitable Trust, being honoured by Ganga Samagra, Uttarakhand, at a programme held in Dehradun.
In the presence of Shri Ramashish Ji, National Sangathan Mantri of Ganga Samagra, Dr. Joshi was conferred the Ganga Alankaran 2026 Honour by Shri Ramsingh Keda, Uttarakhand Minister for Environment Protection and Climate Change. The honour was bestowed in recognition of his outstanding contribution to social service, environmental awareness, water conservation, and community-led initiatives.
The recognition comes at a time when Ahmedabad has emerged as a platform for national conversations on water security. Udgam Charitable Trust recently organised the two-day ‘Bharat Discourses on Water@2047’ in Ahmedabad, bringing together five Padma Awardees along with policymakers, researchers, scientists, water experts, innovators and grassroots practitioners. The conclave focused on water conservation, traditional water systems, innovation, governance and Jan Bhagidari as key pillars for building a water-secure Bharat by 2047.
Dr. Joshi played a key role in bringing this national dialogue to Ahmedabad, reinforcing the city’s role as a platform for conversations around water, sustainability and community participation. The initiative also connected Ahmedabad with a wider national movement seeking practical and community-driven solutions to India’s water challenges.
Through Udgam Charitable Trust, Dr. Joshi has been working on community welfare, social empowerment and environmental awareness, with an emphasis on collective participation and sustainable impact.
Expressing gratitude for the honour, Dr. Joshi said, “This recognition is an encouragement to continue our work with greater commitment. Ahmedabad has always been a city that believes in collective action, and we want to build on that spirit by bringing communities, experts and institutions together to address challenges related to water, environment and social development.
The Dehradun honour marks a significant recognition for Ahmedabad’s social sector, highlighting how initiatives originating from the city are contributing to wider national conversations on environmental conservation, water security and sustainable development.
