Caravan rally on child rights flagged off in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: With the objectives to combat violation of child rights with focus on child trafficking, child marriage and sexual abuse by creating awareness and sensitization among the citizens on these issues, a caravan rally was flagged off by Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Bhaskar Phukan from BTC secretariat gate in Kokrajhar today.

Organised by Nedan Foundation, a Kokrajhar based NGO, the rally will travelled to different parts of Kokrajhar and create awareness and sensitization  on child rights using folklore artist live show on prevention and protection of child marriage, child sexual abuse, child trafficking and child labour issues.

“The caravan rally will reach out to more than 80,000 populations and disseminating the wider reporting platform on crime against children in Kokrajhar, said Chairperson of Nedan Foundation Digambar Narzary.

He said the main objectives of the Caravan rally is to sensitization the people on child rights and to report it to the existing child helpline numbers ‘1098, 181 and 100 in case of any child related case and the children are protected.

Narzary said there has been 34 percent increased in number of crime against the children in India during the lockdown period according to the Childline India report. In the 8 months during lockdown there were 45 reported cases of child marriage, 12 child trafficking, 8 child sexual abuse cases in Kokrajhar district alone.

Stating that it is the responsibility of the each and every citizen of the society to protect the rights of the children, he said “children are our hope and our future and it is our responsibilities to ensure girls along with boys get equal opportunities to study, play and grow.

Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Bhaskar Phukan lauded teh initiative taken by Nedan foundation on the issue.
