BTC election: Campaigning gains momentum in BTR

Kokrajhar: Though the date of the  Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections is yet to be announced by the state election commission, campaigning gained momentum in different parts of the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) with different parties carrying out rallies, meeting etc reaching out to the public with promises of all round development.

On Thursday the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) organised a huge grand citizens gathering at Janagaon Majpara under Debargaon constituency in Kokrajhar district.  UPPL president Pramod Boro, UPPL founding president Urkhao Gwra Brahma and party candidates participated in the meeting. Earlier a rally was carried out from Kokrajhar District Sports Association ground to the meeting venue which was flagged off by UPPL president Pramod Boro.

Boro expressed his confidence of winning the elections and forming the govt in the BTC. Lambasting former BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary of indulging in massive corruption in the last 17 years rule as chief of BTC, Boro said that all the corruptions in the region would come to the fore if his party is elected to power in the 40-member Bodoland Territorial Council.

Assam BJP president Ranjit Das is also seen campaigning in Kokrajhar since yesterday visiting constituencies. NEDA convenor and Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to address two election rallies at Salakati and Fakiragram tomorrow for the BJP candidates.

Talking to Reporters in Kokrajhar, Assam BJP president Ranjit Das said the party has chalk out strategies ahead of the BTC election. He said the party will be forming the govt in BTC.

Various political parties including the BPF, GSP, Congress, AIUDF have also picked up their activities busy carrying out campaigning reaching out to the voters.

Elections to the BTC which was earlier scheduled for April 4 were deferred following the nationwide lockdown due to Covid 19 pandemic. The elections is now stated to be held sometime in December next.
