GUWAHATI : In a cross-border firing in North Kashmir on November 13, Shaheed Havildar Hardhan Chandra Roy (38) paid homage to the jawans of Footkibari tehsil of Dhubri district of Assam in Guwahati in the morning. It is understood that Pakistan had opened fire in several parts of North Kashmir on Friday violating the cease-fire. The funeral of Shaheed Sena Havildar Hardhan Chandra Roy was held on Monday at his native village Footkibadi in Dhubri district of Assam. The son of Havildar Raiw was adopted by the family members and gave the martyr a mouth.
The army and local people joined the farewell of the marty. Mr. Roy was the only earning member of the family. His family has parents, wives, sisters and a one-and-a-half year old son. His mortal remains arrived in Guwahati last evening and were kept in the Army Base Hospital where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal paid homage to him. Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the martyrdom of Roy. Mukhi condoled the attack on Shaheed Rai and other Jawans and said that the martyrdom of Jawans is an example of heroism, commitment and patriotism. “They have set an example of supreme sacrifice and love for the country and their sacrifice will not be wasted,” the governor said. He conveyed his condolences to Roy’s family. Sonowal has termed the attack as a ‘ cowardly ‘ act. “Hardhan Chandra Rai laid down his soul for his duty. He will remain immortal and will always be inspired by the youth because of his heroism and sacrifice. Shri Sonowal has announced an assistance of Rs. 20 lakh to his family members in honour of the martyr on behalf of the State Government.
