In Maharashtra, Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao unfurled the national tricolour, at the main Republic Day function at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. He also took the salute at the ceremonial parade. Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth was the special guest. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other dignitaries were also present.
In his address, the Governor spoke about the progressive steps being taken by the government for the overall inclusive growth of the state and well being of its people.
The governor also said that the state has been successful in implementing the cleanliness programs envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said under the Swachh Bharat Mission the state has been honored with five national awards. He added that around 34 districts, 351 talukas and 27,667 Gram Panchayats in the state have been declared Open Defecation free.
