KOLKATA: Four phases of West Bengal Assembly elections have been held. After every phase of voting, the political turmoil in the state is increasing. Meanwhile, the Election Commission had taken a major step and banned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from campaigning for the next 24 hours. The Commission has held Mamata Banerjee an accused in the inflammatory speech case. At the same time, mamata had also sought votes on the basis of Hindu-Muslim in a public meeting. Opposing the Election Commission of India’s decision, Mamata Didi is sitting on a dharna in Kolkata today to protest against the 24-hour ban on her election campaign. West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee sat on a dharna in the heart of the city on Tuesday to protest against the Election Commission’s “unconstitutional” decision to ban her from campaigning for 24 hours. Banerjee reached Mayo Road here at around 11.40 am in a wheelchair due to injuries last month and started a dharna near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the premises.

No Trinamool leader or supporter was seen with him during this period. When questioned in this regard, a senior Trinamool leader said, “No party leader is allowed to go near the venue. She is sitting there alone. Banerjee had tweeted, “I will sit on dharna near Gandhi Murti in Kolkata from 12 am tomorrow (Tuesday) to protest against the undemocratic and unconstitutional decision of the Election Commission. The Trinamool chief will address two rallies in Barasat and Bidhannagar after 8 pm on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a defence official here said that the area where Banerjee is staging a dharna belongs to the Army and trinamool is yet to get permission for the programme. “I would like to inform everyone that we received an application from trinamool for NOC at 9.40 pm today (Tuesday) to inform everyone. The process in this regard is still underway.
