Vote Counting for Assembly Elections Underway Shortly Across West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam & Puducherry

All preparations are complete and counting of votes for the Assembly elections in West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Puducherry is set to begin in a few minutes.

The counting process will commence at 8 AM today. Postal ballots will be taken up first, followed by Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from 8:30 AM. Early trends are expected to emerge by noon.

The Election Commission has deployed robust security arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful counting across all centres in the five states and Union Territory.

Election Overview

Voting was held in multiple phases:

April 9: All 126 seats in Assam, 140 seats in Kerala, and 30 seats in Puducherry.

April 23: All 234 seats in Tamil Nadu and the first phase of West Bengal (152 seats).

April 29: Second phase of West Bengal (142 seats).

West Bengal will see counting at 77 centres. In Assam, results for 722 candidates will be declared today. Tamil Nadu is witnessing a sharp contest mainly between the ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and the opposition AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance. Puducherry has set up six counting centres for its 294 candidates, while Kerala has put in place foolproof security measures.

As the clock ticks towards 8 AM, political parties and candidates across the regions are on high alert for the first indications of the verdict.
