GUWAHATI :Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria chaired a meeting with the officials of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in Raj Bhavan today. During the meeting, the Governor discussed on several issues of importance for the development of the areas falling under KAAC and NCHAC. Kataria said that the sixth schedule autonomous council was created to fullfill the aims and aspirations of the people living in a particular area. Therefore, it is the bounden duty of all the public representatives to take extra efforts to fulfill the aspirations of the people.
The Governor took a detailed presentation of the various regulations framed by the Autonomous Council and the status of performance of the various departments. He also reviewed the government programmes and schemes undertaken for the welfare of the people. The Governor asked the Principal Secretary KAAC Mukul Kumar Saikia to see the literacy rate in the tea garden areas. He also asked him to take special care of the flagship programme of the central govt being implemented in the sixth schedule areas. Taking keen interests in the implementation of the Mukhya Mantri Unnoto Pakipath Nirman Achoni in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, the Governor asked the Council authorities to take dedicated efforts to ensure the scheme’s success.
Furthermore, the Governor urged the officials to prioritize the implementation of E-KYC and Adhar-seeding in various schemes, as the lack of progress in these areas adversely affect the overall growth of the areas. The Governor assured his support to the Councils in their endeavours to serve the people. The Governor similarly asked Prinipal Secretary, NCHAC Thai Tsho Daulagapu and Principal Seretary (N) NCHAC Debanon Daulagapu to take periodic assessments of the progress of different schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission, PMAY, AADHAR seeding etc. He emphasized that although the overall coverage target is within reach, it is essential for the officials to expedite their efforts to ensure the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission. Moreover, the Governor asked the officials to arrange discussions with key government officials, such as the MD of Jal Jeevan Mission, in order to strategize and identify effective approaches for the smooth implementation of the scheme. Highlighting the need for government interventions to ensure that government schemes reach the last mile of the society, the Governor reiterated the need for setting up Anganwadi Centres. He also asked the Councils to set up the centres in the government-owned land or within government schools.
Considering the tourism potential of Dima Hasao, the Governor asked the authority to take steps to ensure enhancement of tourist footfall in the area. The Governor said that both councils have been fulfilling their responsibilities in their respective domains. He asked the Council authorities to redouble their efforts and expeditiously execute the welfare initiatives for the greater benefit of the residents residing in both the Councils. At the same time he also assured that Raj Bhavan, Assam will always be available to help the Councils.
