Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has announced that the state will establish 70 new electric vehicle charging stations under the PM E-Drive Scheme to strengthen charging infrastructure and promote clean transportation.

The announcement was made during a review meeting at the Secretariat with officials from the Department of New and Renewable Energy, Transport Department, Kadamba Transport Corporation and other departments on fuel management and sustainable mobility. Dr. Sawant directed officials to prepare a scheme providing up to 50 per cent subsidy to licensed motorcycle pilots and auto-rickshaw drivers for purchasing electric vehicles, encouraging a shift towards greener transport.

The state government will also formulate a policy to gradually replace diesel generator sets in industrial and commercial establishments with cleaner alternatives, including battery energy storage systems, solar power solutions and other sustainable technologies.

The chief minister further directed officials to retrofit older diesel buses of the Kadamba Transport Corporation in the state with CNG engines to reduce emissions and promote environmental sustainability.
