New Delhi: The Supreme Court has extended the interim bail granted to Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi cabinet minister Satyendar Jain who is facing a money laundering case.

The court had previously granted him bail on medical grounds due to a spinal surgery he underwent. His plea challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision to deny him bail last year was being considered by a bench comprising Justices AS Bopanna and Bela M Trivedi.

During the proceedings, Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Jain, argued for an extension of the interim bail, citing the seriousness of his recent operation. The court agreed to extend the bail by five weeks, deciding to review the situation at that point.

The case against Jain and others involves allegations of money laundering through several companies, and the Directorate of Enforcement has been investigating the matter. Properties worth crores have been attached by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the case.

Despite facing previous rejections for bail, the Supreme Court showed compassion considering Jain’s medical condition, extending the interim bail to allow time for recovery before further evaluation. The case will be re-examined at the end of the extended bail period.
