Kokrajhar : The All Adivasi Student’s Association of Assam (AASAA) today staged a 3 hours protest dharna at Children Park near Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Office demanding Scheduled Tribes status to the Tea Tribes communities of Assam.

Over a hundred Tea Tribe communities’ people with placards, banners and shouting slogans carried out the dharna from 10 am to 1 pm.

A memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Office demanding inclusion of Adivasis of Assam in the list of Scheduled Tribe status.

Rejen Hoho, vice president of All Adivasi Student’s Association of Assam said the demand for inclusion of the Oraons, Mundas, Santhals, Kharias, Gonds, Sawras and other communities into the list of Scheduled Tribes of Assam is not a new matter, rather “it is a matter of recognition of these tribes as Scheduled Tribes because their blood brethren living in other states of the Indian Union are recognised as Scheduled Tribes”.

They threatened of intensifying the agitation if the communities are not granted ST status.
