Amit Shah asserts, new reforms introduced in last 6 years made coal sector globally competitive

India has embarked on its journey to be self sufficient in terms of Coal production. Speaking at the Tree plantation drive -2020 function today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the initiatives taken under the current government to make the nation self reliant in many aspects.

Highlighting the key achievements in the coal sector, Mr.Shah asserted that new reforms introduced in the last 6 years have made the sector globally competitive. He lauded the decision of commercial mining and said it will further reduce India’s dependency on coal imports.

Mr. Shah informed that the Coal Ministry is committed to achieve the target of 1 billion ton Coal production in the country by 2023-24. He said, the creation of District Mineral fund by the government has helped to rehabilitate lakhs of people in the coal belt areas. Highlighting the key achievements in the coal sector, Mr.Shah asserted that new reforms introduced in the last 6 years have made the sector globally competitive. He lauded the decision of commercial mining and said it will further reduce India’s dependency on coal imports.

The minister said that the unique initiative to plant 6 lakh trees under the Tree Plantation Drive depicts the approach to maintain a sustainable balance with nature. The tree plantation drive programme was conducted by the Coal Ministry toda, under which saplings will be planted in 6000 acres of land across the country. Coal India officials planted saplings at 150 different locations. Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi, Secretary Coal along with officials of Coal India were also present on the occasion.
