Port Blair: In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the lockdown outside containment zones has been extended till the midnight of 31st August. However, more relaxations have been given. The electric, hardware, motor garage, furniture shops are now allowed to open along with shops of essential items. Construction activities have also been permitted in the islands.
Fishing activities and home delivery of food from the restaurants will also go on. Petrol pumps and banking services will be carried out as before. Rapid Antigen Test made necessary for all incoming passengers from the mainland. People moving to tribal areas of the Islands like Nicobar, Rangat and Little Andaman will be tested under RTCPR.The lockdown will come into force from this midnight. The weekend lockdown will carry on as before.
Meanwhile, a dip in the number of new cases reported and hike in the recovery of patients have been observed during the last few days. It leads to improvement in the recovery rate from 61 per cent to 72 per cent in the past five days.
Yesterday, 44 fresh cases were reported while 129 recovered. Out of the total 2,904 cases reported 2,092 recovered. The number of active cases reduced to 777. Thirty five deaths have been reported so far.
