NAGAON , Assam :The agitation of the farmer is happening very fast in Nagaon of Assam. Several farmers’ organizations including Nikhil Bharat Krishak Sabha, Asom Raijik Krishak Sabha, Krishak Maha Sabha, Krishak Panchayat, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad, Manab Adhikar Sangram Somittee, Joutha Sangrami Manch and other staged a sit in protest against the government’s decision to handing over the agricultural land of Bamuni Mikir Grant to a private sector company for solar power plant project here in front of Nagaon Swahid Bhavan today.

Hundreds of farmers and their families including women and children from the Bamuni Mikir Grant area participated in the stir and demanded an enquiry against the recent police atrocity on the farmers and women during a democratic protest against government’s decision at Bamuni Mikir Grant. During the agitation, the protesters shouted various slogans against the cruel and inhumane assault on indigenous farmers and women by Nagaon police and also sought justice to them. Criticizing the stand of the government towards the indigenous farmers, several leaders of those farmers organizations said that the BJP led state government promised to protect the ‘Jati – Mati – Bheti’ of the indigenous peoples of the state and now pulling the reigns of the state’s power, the same BJP took a ‘U’ turn. Besides, the government moved against the indigenous communities, they alleged. They however claimed that the entire area of Bamuni Mikir Grant is an elephant corridor and how the district forest department provided the clean sheet to the government is a big question to all.
