Guwahati: After eastern Ladakh and Uttarakhand, china’s aggression on LAC is now set to be given a befitting reply in the North-East as well. A senior Indian Army official on Friday  said that in view of the ongoing border  conflict with China along the Line of Actual Control, India has deployed Pinaka rocket launchers along the border. This dangerous weapon is named after Lord Shiva’s dhanush pinak. It is a multiple rocket launcher developed in India.

The rocket launch has been built by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. Pinaka and Smarch multi rocket launcher systems are reportedly designed to fire various types of ammunition. The weapon is designed in such a way that they can respond to the attack of enemies in a very fast and accurate manner. The MK-1 variant of the Pinaka rocket can easily hit the target 45 km away. The MK-2 Pinaka rocket can hit 90 km while the MK-3 Pinaka rocket can hit any target up to 120 km. The rocket launcher ranges from 16 feet 3 inches to 23 feet 7 inches in length. This 214-caliber launcher can fire 12 Pinaka rockets simultaneously. While 72 Pinaka rockets can be fired in 44 seconds through a launcher battery.

The speed of Pinaka rocket is about 5757 kmph. A senior Indian Army official said the Pinak weapon system is an autonomous picket artillery system that can target the world up to a height of 38 km. Such deployment in the high altitude border area is aimed at strengthening the operational capabilities of the Army. This will prevent the dissection of the tanks and other equipment sown within a radius of 1000 x 800 metres. The upgraded version of pinak ammunition system is already on the production line, which can fire up to 75 km with better accuracy.
