Army medical camp in remote village of Assam’s Darrang District

Mangaldai: More than two thousand denizens of a vast rural area of western most part of Darrang district on Monday have availed free treatment and free medicines at the daylong mega medical and health camp organized at remote Duni Village by the unit of Red Horns Division deployed at Golandi in Udalguri district. The troops of Red Horns Division, while assisting the civil administration in fighting

against the insurgency organised the medical and health camp at Duni MV School under the ‘Op Sadbhavana’.  The effort of Army was aptly supplemented by the district administration and a dozen of army and civil doctors  with specialisation took part in the camp to treat, prescribe medicines free of cost. Dr. B Dey (Medicine) and Dr. C Saha (Paediatrician) of Udalguri, Dr. Anil Sarma (ophthalmic Surgeon), Dr. Hemanta Deka (ENT), Medical Officers Dr. Syed Hijabullah Kazi and Dr. Niloy Kishor Das of Darrang and army doctors namely Capt. Shirshendu Ghosh (Dental), Capt. Satinder, Capt. Ramakrishna, Capt. Jyotsna and Capt. Avinash besides the para medico staff treated the rural patients.   “The initiative to reach out to interior villages by the Army and spread message of participation in all efforts of nation building is inspiring and will generate lot of good will for ‘our loving brothers in Olive Green”  said octogenarian villager Hareswar Deka who availed treatment for his illness.

The medical and health camp organised by army the first time in the area, recorded a total of 696 male, 893 female and 485 children patients who were offered treatment and medicines while  another 237 patients got treatment for dental ailments.

Earlier Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ghanashyam Dass in presence of Commanding Officer of 14 Garhwal Rifles Colonel Rahul,and senior citizens of the locality inaugurated the camp and appreciated the spirit of the troops of Red Horns  Division.
