Assam government demands grant of NON-BC status Upper Assam Muslim Welfare Council:: 5 zilla samitis of the council dissolved

 SIVASAGAR : An emergency meeting of the Central Committee of The Ujjain Assam Muslim Welfare Council was held under the chairmanship of Chairman of the Central Committee of the Council Chowkat Latif. Speaking at the meeting, Monirul Islam Bara, acting president of the Central Committee of the Council, said that a large number of indigenous Muslims in Assam belong to the poor. This population has been deprived of all aspects with the “minority” name.

So the state government has already been demanded to provide an RBI status to this community just like ahom. In response to the welfare council’s demand, the state government in the 2017-18 budget allocated Rs 10 crore for setting up of hazrat azan pi coordination area in Sivasagar but it has not been implemented till date. Bara said the council had sent a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma demanding allocation of at least Rs 100 crore for the Azan Pi coordination area to be constructed on the model of Srimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

It was in this meeting that The Central Committee finance secretary of the council Raju Bara and campaign secretary Khairuddin Ahmed highlighted various organisational aspects and suggested holding of the Central Delegation of the Council by November this year. It was then that the approval and advice of Central Committee President Chowkat Latif was immediately dissolved by the Welfare Council’s Dibrugarh, Sarideu, Tinsukia, Lakshimpur and Dhemaji Zilla Samiti. Ahidur Zaman Choudhary, general secretary of the central committee of the council, was entrusted with the responsibility of reconstituting the dissolved district committees in a strong manner.
