GUWAHATI : Official sources said, Assam Police arrested 49 drug smugglers with Rs 4 crore in 24 hours and seized 1,17,138 drugs. In its continuing fight against drug traffickers, Assam Police registered 22 cases in the last 24 hours, arrested 49 people and seized more than 2 kg of brown sugar from different parts of the state. State Chief Minister who is also in charge of the Home Department, said in a tweet that Assam Police has also seized 14.31 kg of ganja and 1,17,138 drug pills.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that “Assam Police has also seized 21 bottles of codeine based cough. 252 grams of opium and Rs 4,33,270 cash have been recovered on June 5. In a tweet, Bongaigaon police said that the police arrested a ganja dealer identified as Santnu Deka with 4.50 kg of suspected ganja from North Salmara with 290 sampex tablets. 30,000 and one bike were also recovered from the possession of the duo.
