Aster Medcity Opens Centre of Excellence in Fetal Medicine, Launches ‘Jananeeyam’ Free Scan Initiative for Government Hospital Patients
Kochi: Aster Medcity has inaugurated its Centre of Excellence in Fetal Medicine, a dedicated facility offering comprehensive prenatal diagnosis, fetal monitoring, and multidisciplinary maternal-fetal care. The launch also marked the digital rollout of the Jananeeyam – “The Free Fetal Scan” Initiative, which will provide essential fetal screening to expectant mothers referred from government hospitals across Kerala.
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest K. Muraleedharan, Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Devaswoms, said the initiative reflects a commitment to extend high-quality private-hospital services to the public sector. “By giving mothers the opportunity to give birth to healthy babies, we are making a major gain in the field of health,” he noted, while also thanking Aster Medcity for its support in a recent liver transplant case involving a child from Thrissur.

Under the Jananeeyam programme, the centre will provide five free scans daily to patients from government institutions, including medical colleges and district hospitals. Services include anomaly scans, 3D/4D fetal evaluation, fetal echocardiography, and fetal neurosonogram, with second opinions also offered at no cost.
Dr. Bijoy K Balakrishnan, Senior Consultant and Programme Director, Department of Fetal Medicine at Aster Medcity, emphasised that the centre is designed to deliver accurate diagnosis, timely intervention, and compassionate support throughout pregnancy.
The facility brings together fetal medicine specialists, obstetricians, neonatologists, genetic experts, and paediatric subspecialists to provide personalised care for both routine and high-risk pregnancies.
