Ayurveda doctors with only theoretical knowledge should not be allowed to perform surgery – Vaidya Maha Sabha

Thiruvananthapuram: Vaidya mahasabha an organisation of traditional healers has in a statement requested TCMC in a statement has requested Travancore-Cochin Medical Council  (TCMC) to refrain from  granting license to B.A.M.S. Certificate holding Ayurveda doctors to perform surgery, since they lack training and practical experience in surgery. These Ayurveda doctors should not be treated on a par with M.B.B.S. certificate holding Allopathy doctors, who have systematic training and actual experience in surgery.

The knowledge of Ayurveda doctors in Kerala on surgery is purely bookish. It is not only unfair to grant them license to practice surgery, but also it is fraught with danger for the health of the public. On the other hand, VMS welcomes the move of the Central Medical Council to permit specialized Ayurveda doctors to perform minor surgeries. They have special training. But this is not the case with the more than 23,000 Ayurveda doctors registered under TCMC. They have absolutely no training and no qualification to perform surgery.  The move of TCMC amounts to committing fraud against the entire state population. The license already given should be immediately revoked, VMS demanded.

Very good move. I suggest that BAMS students also be given training in surgery so that they too can perform surgeries. After all, it started in India!
