Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr AK Abdul Momen has cancelled his visit to Delhi. He was scheduled to leave for Delhi today on a three-day visit to attend the Indian Ocean Dialogue (IOD) starting on Friday.

The Bangladeshi news agency UNB quoted officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to confirm the cancellation of the visit.

Confirming the cancellation, Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Ravish Kumar said that the Bangladesh side has conveyed that the Minister has changed his programme on account of domestic issues pertaining to the commemoration of the ‘Victory Day’ in Bangladesh on December 16.

The MEA spokesperson denied that it is in any way linked to the passage of Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) by the parliament. He said that India Bangladesh relations are in their golden phase now.

He clarified that the comments made by the Home Minister Amit Shah about the oppression of the minorities referred to the period of military rule and previous governments in Bangladesh and not to the current government which is taking care of the minorities.
