Bhopal Tamil  Sangam’s Tamil New Year event 2022

Bhopal:   Bhopal Tamil Sangam (BTS)  celebrated the Tamil New Year 2022, also known as Tamil Puthandu  in a truly festive atmosphere at  Career College, BHEL, Bhopal here today.

During the early afternoon, song and dance performances were held followed by a lunch of authentic South Indian cuisine and awards involving the attendees.  The scare of the pandemic and lockdown curbs took the sheen out of the traditional festivals including Tamil New year celebration in the last two years.

 Bhopal Tamil Sangam, an organization that celebrates South Indian culture through food, music, art and dance is primarily known for holding Pongal and Tamil New Year celebrations, both of which typically draw in hundreds of attendees. Pongal, which is the annual celebration of the year’s harvest, is held in January.

A day that signifies renewal, Puthandu is a time for families and friends to share a meal, exchange gifts and pray for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.   It all began after the exchange of new year greetings with one another followed by lighting the ceremonial oil lamp by  Chief guest Hon’ble Minister of Medical Education Shri Vishvas Sarang. The event started with an introductory speech, honoring guests of Honour Dr. G. Viswanathan Chancellor VIT University , Special guest Shri Manish Rajoria Chairman Career College, Shri S. Baskaran, Shri K. M. Kumaran, Shri R. Marimuthu Raju Swamay, Shri D George, Shri Thirumalai Narayanan, Miss A. Cecilia and Smt. Sarita Rajan was present on the occasion. 

Besides, other special guests along with the residents and members also graced the event and wished each other for the prosperous New Year ahead. The prayer and the welcome note for the guests and the Honorable Chief guest added a light of inspiration to the event.
