BIMACC and JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) Convene National Legal Conclave to Mark Two Decades of Mediation in the Presence of Governor of Karnataka
BENGALURU : The Bangalore International Mediation, Arbitration, and Conciliation Centre (BIMACC), in association with JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), successfully hosted a landmark national conclave titled ‘Two Decades of Mediation: Bridge the Divide’ at the CMS Business School in Bengaluru.
The high-profile event commemorated two decades of the mediation movement in Karnataka, celebrating its profound impact on reducing litigation and fostering a strong cultural shift toward dialogue and consensus-building. The conclave drew an elite gathering of Supreme Court and High Court judges, jurists, legal scholars, industry leaders, policymakers, and law students from across the country.
Inaugural and Royal Book Launches
The inaugural session was graced by the Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, who paid tribute to the foundational pioneers who established court-annexed mediation in the state, including the first Patron-in-Chief and the initial Board of Governors of the Bangalore Mediation Centre.
He highlighted the ancient Sanskrit concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and how it focuses on the importance of dialogue in settling disputes. “Mediation plays an important role not only in the legal field but also across all sectors like banking, business, education, health care, and more. In the era of Artificial Intellegence, the concept of mediation and what we can achieve with it is broadening and has become more necessary than ever.”
A notable highlight of the morning was the formal book launch by the Hon’ble Governor of two works authored by Hon’ble Mr Justice B. C. Thiruvengadam, Senior Advocate, International Arbitrator and Honorary Director of BIMACC: Commentary on The Mediation Act, 2023 and Mediation Train the Trainer Manual.
Judicial Reflections and Bridging the Divide
The conclave was presided over by Hon’ble Mr Justice Cyriac Joseph, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Patron of BIMACC. Mr. B. C. Thiruvengadam delivered the definitive thematic address. Distinguished Guests of Honour included Hon’ble Mr Justice Aravind Kumar, sitting Judge of the Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Mr Justice S R Bannurmath, former Chief Justice of Kerala HC, Chairman BIMACC; Hon’ble Mr Justice V Gopala Gowda, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India; Dr. Chenraj Roychand, Chancellor of JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), amongst others.
The latter half of the conclave transitioned into three rigorous, intellectually sharp panel discussions featuring elite legal minds. The conclave concluded not only with a celebration of the achievements of the past twenty years but also with a collective commitment to building a future in which mediation becomes an integral part of India’s justice ecosystem.
