Bodo peace deal signed: 60 Militants surrender with weapons

GUWAHATI : The organisation was formed after some disgruntled NDFB cadres led by M Batha returned to the forest after the signing of the third Bodo peace agreement in January 2020. It was mostly active in the Bodoland Territorial Area (BTR). 60 Militants of the National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) surrendered in Assam under the leadership of their chief and other top leaders along with weapons. The fourth team of the National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) today decided to lay down arms and return home, the police official said.

The fourth team of NLFB comprises 60 members including NLFB commandos. They have decided to give up violence for good and surrender today. The team’s presence was reported in Kiajuli area of Majbat along the Assam-Arunachal border. On August 8, Assam Police witnessed surrender of 32 NLFB cadres led by Platoon Commander B Horpa. With plans to return to the mainstream, surrendered activists including B Horpa have moved from Jharbari to a designated camp in Kokrajhar.

 The incident comes as a result of the surrender of NLF founder M Batha, who was earlier wanted by the NIA. Batha along with 22 of his colleagues surrendered before the government in July. Batha, along with assam police officials, was also present to acquire cadres of newly formed organisations who had earlier surrendered. Batha has urged other cadres to be active to surrender at the earliest. All major nlfb camps at Kokrajhar and Udalguri are likely to be cleared by August 15.
