Breached embankment under repair washed away by fresh flood in Assam’s Mangaldai

 MANGALDAI: : In less than a month of the first wave flood of the season , following incessant rainfalls over the last few days , Darrang district has been hit by a fresh wave of flood on June 16 . According to the reports of the DDMA, as many as 52, 400 population including 11,527 nos of children and 1991 nos of females of altogether 152 villages under all the four revenue circles of the district have been hit by the flood . The flood water has already submerged crop area of nearly 2500 hectares .

Meanwhile water current of river Saktola has yet again washed away around a ten meter portion of the embankment at village Bor-Athiabari under Mangaldai revenue circle where temporary protection works for a breached portion of nearly sixty meters was nearing completion since its earlier incident of breach on May 17 last. Following this second incident of breaching around fifteen villages of the locality have been affected. It has also created a threat to the NH-15 which is also at a close distance from the site . The locals have alleged negligence on the part of the execution agency Water Resource Department and the contractors engaged , for the failure of timely completion of the repair work .
