Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa has lamented rejection by the British Parliament of the country’s exit agreement from the European Union saying he hoped that the British authorities would “quickly” inform them of their next steps to avoid an uncontrolled exit.

Costa was speaking to reporters at a hotel in capital Lisbon shortly after British parliament rejected the UK’s exit agreement.

German Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the defeat of British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal in parliament was a “bitter day for Europe”.

Scholz who is also the finance minister said, Germany is  well prepared, but a hard Brexit would be the least attractive choice, for the European Union and Great Britain.
