 BSF Kills Bangladeshi cattle smuggler in shootout

GUWAHATI: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel shot dead an animal smuggler who was trying to illegally enter the Indian border from Bangladesh in Assam on the Indo-Bangladesh border in Mankachar late tonight. According to the information, the cattle smugglers, who were illegally infiltrating, opened fire on the BSF jawans, after which the jawans retaliated and dumped them. A police official said that jawans of bsf’s 45th battalion shot dead a miscreant while he was trying to take away the head of cattle by crossing the fence on the upper Assam border.

Acting on a tip-off, troops of 45 Battalion BSF launched a patrol operation and during the midnight, an unidentified person was caught trying to transport cattle on the Bangladesh side of the border by crossing the high India-Bangladesh border fence between BOP No 1057-1058 and BFL No 94-95 at Kukurmara in South Salmara Mankachar district.According to reports, the suspected smuggler tried to attack the soldiers’ member with sharp weapons, and though it was dark, the BSF had to fire a few rounds. Reports said that the unidentified person was shot dead and died on the spot. According to local sources, the BSF has tightened its grip on the border area to rein in cattle smuggling.

The Commanding Officer of the Border Security Force (BSF) said that The socio-political-religious landscapes on both sides of the border between Bangladesh and India are different, leading to different security environments on both sides. At the same time, the geographical conditions of areas like Behar in West Bengal, Dubri in Assam and Salmara Mankachar are also different. However, despite the Brahmaputra river and the intriguing atmosphere, the BSF has managed to reduce cattle smuggling.
