BTC chief Pramod Boro announces insurance, award for journalists

Kokrajhar: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration has said media personnel in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) will be provided group insurance and an award will be instituted to be given to the working journalist of the region.

The chief executive member of BTC Pramod Boro made the announcement on Saturday during a felicitation and interaction programme organised by the BTR Journalists’ Association at Science College auditorium in Kokrajhar.

 Speaking on the occasion, the BTC chief said an award in the name of a well-known personality associated with the media will be instituted to be given to the working journalist. Moreover a group insurance will be provided to the recognized media which he said will try to include in the next budget to ensure wellbeing and welfare of journalists. He also said the BTC administration will try to provide pension to journalists aged above 60 years annually.

Lauding the role played by the media fraternity in highlighting various issues of the region and bringing to the notice of the govt and the world, he said the media has always played a very decisive role and expect the same in the BTC in coming days too.

He said his Council will try to solve various demands put forward by the BTR Journalists’ Association including set up Journalist Colony at the Headquarter of BTR, pension to journalists aged above 60 years annually etc one by one.

Earlier the BTC chief was felicitated with traditional Aronai, pulam gamosa. A memorandum was also submitted to the BTC Chief of various demands. The programme chaired by BTR Journalists’ Association president Jaiklong Brahma was attended by around 100 media persons from four BTR districts of Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri and Kokrajhar.
