Cache of arms and ammunition recovered in Kokrajhar, Chirang

Kokrajhar: Ahead of Bodoland Territorial Council elections scheduled in two phases on December 7 and 10 next, security forces recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions from two separate locations in Lower Assam Kokrajhar and Chirang districts

In Ripu Reserve Forest under Saraibil border Outpost of Gossaigaon police station in Kokrajhar district, security forces recovered cache of arms and ammunitions including 2 AK 54 rifles with magazine, 6 muzzle loaded pipe gun, 7 nos of 7.65 mm pistol, 26 nos of 7.65 mm pistol magazine, 108 nos 7.62 mm live ammunition of AK, 44 nos of 7.65 live ammunitions, 5 grenades, 50 nos handmade empty cartoz, 6 nos of 5.56 mm live ammunitions, 3 country made bottle bomb, 30 nos of Iron ball, 27 nos of 7.62 empty cases(SLR), 13 nos of 7.62 empty cases(SK) etc.

Kokrajhar SP Rakesh Roushan said based on specific information a joint operation was launched by Kokrajhar police led by Additional Superintendent of Police Mukut Rabha, SSB, Army and CRPF in jungle area of Ripu Reserve forest Ride No 8 under Saraibil border Outpost of Gossaigaon police station in Kokrajhar district and recovered the arms and ammunitions.

In Chirang district, arms and ammunitions including one M 20 Pistol along with magazine, 3 nos of 9 mm Factory made Pistol with magazines, 2 nos of 7.65 mm Factory made Pistol with magazine, one factory made rifle along with magazine, 4 Chinese Hand Grenades, 9 rounds of AK series live ammunition, 7 rounds 9 mm Live ammunition, 2 rounds of 7.65 Live ammunition, 4 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition etc from inside jungle of Chirang Reserve Forest located towards north-western side of village Sidhapara under Runikhata Police station.

No one has been arrested in both the recoveries. Investigations are on, police said.
