Central team arrives in Bengaluru to assess drought situation in Karnataka

A high-level Central team has arrived in Bengaluru today to assess the drought situation in Karnataka. Led by Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ajit Kumar Sahu, the team will tour the drought-affected regions till October 6th.

Divided into three teams, they will visit Tumkuru, Chitradurga, Davangere, Ballari, Mysuru, Chamrajanagara, Mandya, Yadgir, Raichur, Bagalkote and Koppal to assess the crop loss and the distress faced by the farmers in the drought-affected regions. Holding consultations with the Central team, Chief Minister D K Shivakumar sought over seven thousand crore rupees in drought relief according to NDRF norms. He informed them that out of 240 taluks in Karnataka, 217 are declared drought-affected, and central relief is at present sought for 177 taluks.
