Centre Doubles Penalties For Farmers Engaged in Stubble Burning

New Delhi: The Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry has doubled penalties against stubble burning. The government notified the new rules under, Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (Imposition, Collection and Utilization of Environmental Compensation for Stubble Burning) Amendment Rules, 2024 yesterday.

As per the new rules, farmers with less than two acres of land holding will have to pay five thousand rupees now which was earlier two thousand five hundred rupees. The farmers having an area of land of two to five acres will have to pay an environmental compensation of ten thousand rupees per incidence. Those farmers who hold land more than five acres have to pay an environmental compensation of thirty thousand rupees. Earlier, the compensation was five thousand for those with two to five acres and 15 thousand for those with more than five acres for burning stubble.
