Chairman holds discussions for conducting proceedings of Rajya Sabha

Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu today held detailed discussions on various options for conducting the proceedings of Rajya Sabha during the ensuing Monsoon Session of the Parliament.

Sources said that Secretary General and other senior officials of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat participated in the hour long discussions. The broad position that emerged was to enable seating of members of Rajya Sabha in the chamber and the galleries of the house in conformity with the norm of physical distancing.

Mr Naidu suggested that the effort shall be to enable participation of the members in the proceedings from within the house to the extent possible through appropriate planning. The chamber and the galleries of Rajya Sabha can accommodate 127 members while adhering to the physical distancing norm.

All the galleries except the media gallery would be utilized for seating the members. Seating of media persons in the media gallery would also be in conformity with the physical distancing norm for which guidelines would be evolved. Source said, the Chairman directed the officials to submit a detailed action plan for further consideration by early next week.
