New Delhi: Congress Party on Saturday accused the ruling BJP for trying everything to smother the Opposition. Talking to the media Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Leader of the party in the Lok Sabha said that there “is a deliberate design by the ruling party to throttle the voice of the opposition by resorting to various unsavoury instruments”.
Siting his suspension from the House as the latest example for the nefarious design of the party in silencing the Opposition voice Chaaudhary said “it’ s really a new phenomenon that we have never experienced during our career in Parliament.” The Coongress leader said that as a disciplined member of the House he had obeyed the order of the Speaker. He further said that “this is probably the first time that a leader of the principal Opposition party in the Lok Sabha is suspended from the House.”
Chaudhary said that if anything he said was unparliamentary, speaker had the right to delete or expunge it, “but, I don’t know why, for one or two words which were mis-construed by them as offensive, they may protest to the speaker, according to the provisions of the rules and procedures in our rule book and got those words expunged.”
According the Congress leader said that “there is a deliberate design by the ruling party to throttle the voice of the opposition by resorting to various unsavoury instruments.”
Referring to the suspension the Member of Parliament said “I have been hanged and thereafter, I will have to face the trial. It is a very awkward situation; I have been facing. First of all, to be hanged, thereafter go for trial, but again I am with all respect at my command to the Chair of the house, I must say that I cannot contradict the direction of the Chair, but, if I find that this kind of situation could be resolved by court oof law, I may try also to do that, otherwise the essence of Indian Parliament will be done away with.”
