Mangaldai : What can be regarded as a major boost to the ongoing campaign against the growing tobacco consumption just ahead of the new year ,the District Level Coordination Committee ,(DLCC) for tobacco control here has decided to strictly enforce the tobacco control act COTPA in Darrang. The important decision was taken on Thursday afternoon in a meeting of the DLCC headed by Deputy Commissioner, Dilip Kumar Borah.
The meeting attended by Superintendent of Police, Amrit Bhuyan and all the district heads of the stake holder government agencies including all the revenue Circle Officers ,Joint Director of Health , Inspector of Schools, District Elementary Education Officer , Drug Inspector and Deputy Director, Food , Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs discussed on possible ways to deal with the issue of growing tobacco use and help users especially the younger generation to get out the menace. Later the meeting decided to ensure the one hundred meter radius of all educational and health institutions of the district as the no tobacco zone . However before strict enforcement of the act the meeting stressed the need of imparting training of the grass root police officials.
