DELHI CM URGES PLASTIC INDUSTRY TO PLAY MAJOR ROLE HELP MAKE DELHI A ZERO WASTE CITY

New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has urged the plastic industry in the country to play major role in managing plastic waste and making national capital Delhi a zero-waste city.

“Plastic is one  of major hindrance in Delhi’s growth .Plastic industry in the country manufactures so many products which have become daily part of life . There is urgent need to find and develop new technologies to make city clean and address various pollution related issues. Plastic is major contribution in landfills of Delhi” Said Ms Rekha Gupta while launching PlastIndia 2026 campaign in Delhi organised by PlastIndia Foundation an apex body of major associations, organisations, and institutions connected with Plastics

CM also lauded the plastic industry for making ‘Bharat Next ‘ as theme of PlastIndia 2026 focusing on Viksit Bharat and make in India . There is need to work on Viksit Delhi along with Viksit Bharat as Delhi government making Delhi a major tourist hub so that every visitor visiting India should visit Delhi” She said.

CM Gupta registered herself as first visitor of the forthcoming Plastindia 2026 to be held in Delhi February Next year.

“Indian Plastics Industry, it is one of the most promising sectors of our economy. Valued at about USD 2.30 Lakh Crores in 2025, it is projected to grow at a CAGR of 10.88%, reaching nearly USD 3.8 Lakh Crores by 2030. This growth is fueled by sectors such as packaging, automotive, construction, and electronics. Packaging, driven by e-commerce expansion, holds a strong market share of 42%, underscoring the Plastics industry’s critical role in contemporary commerce.” Said Mr. Ravish Kamath, President of the PlastIndia Foundation speaking on the occasion.

“Exports are a vital indicator of our industry’s strength. India’s plastic exports reached approximately USD 10.34 billion in early 2025, covering a wide spectrum of products including Plastic Films, Industrial Parts, and Specialty Polymers. This shows the robust global demand for Indian plastics and our manufacturing prowess. North India, especially the Delhi-NCR region, is a vital hub in this industry. The region accounts for about 23% of India’s Plastics consumption.” Mr Kamath said.

“PLASTINDIA 2026 a Zero-Waste exhibition, we will showcase a modern, responsible, and globally competitive Indian plastics industry, fully aligned with our Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Mission.The exhibition will showcase India’s rise as global leader  with focus on innovation , sustainability and digital transformation ” Said Mr. Alok Tibrewala, Chairman of the National Executive Committee , PLASTINDIA  2026,
