Doctors get first shot of KOVID-19 vaccine in Assam

GUWAHATI : Corona vaccination campaign has begun in the country. In the north-east, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has launched the first phase of the KOVID-19 vaccination campaign at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh. In Assam, about 190,000 doctors and nurses, hospital staff, lab technicians and ambulance drivers will be vaccinated in the first vaccination phase. The Assam government has selected 12 senior doctors for vaccination on Saturday. The former vice chancellor of Srimanta Shankardev University of Health Sciences, 70 years old, Umesh Chandra Sarma became the first person to receive the Kovid-19 vaccine in Assam on Saturday. Dr. Sanjeev Kakoti, Principal, Assam Medical College & Hospital, Dr. Allusion Kumar Gogoi, Superintendent Prasant Dihingia, Amch Physician Dr. Hem Chandra Kalita, Retired Professor of AMCH Dr. Giriendra Nath Gogoi, Dr. Ram PD Medhi and Dr. Shantanu Lakar were among the first 100 health professionals who have taken the vaccine.

 Vaccination has also started at Barbarua Block PHC in Dibrugarh. In a tweet, Sarbananda Sonowal said that the KOVID-19 vaccination campaign was honoured to be launched in Dibrugarh. A total of 12 doctors have given the first shot of the vaccine at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in the presence of Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said about 1.9 lakh Kovid warriors will join the first phase followed by one lakh frontline workers in the second phase. 8,651 vaccinators have been trained, which will be monitored by 1,300 trained personnel. The central government has also asked the health workers to have corona vaccination in the first peak. At the same time, 100 people will be vaccinated at a corona vaccination centre in just one day. This is a historic moment and we will remember it for our entire life. The first phase will be over by April. We have requested the Centre to give us additional vaccines so that the officers on election duty are vaccinated for the forthcoming assembly elections in April,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
