DSU submits memo to HR Minister

Haflong  : With the plea for the campus of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University in  Dima Hasao District of  Southern Assam, the Dimasa Students Union submitted a memorandum to Shri. Prakash Javedkar, Human Resource Development Minister, Government of India, New Delhi through the Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao on Wednesday.

The memorandum signed by Sidut Naiding, President,  Pramith Sengyung,  General Secretary, Dimasa Students’ Union maintained that the state of  Assam housed more than 30 tribal communities. They were still lacking behind in terms of education and as well as socially than that of other communities of India.

In certain circumstance, they were bound to give up their education at the early age, most often after preliminary education. As a result, they are unable to go hand in hand with the mainstream communities of the country. Though there were some universities in the region, however it became too expensive for these tribes to enroll for higher education. Being deprived of education, these tribal communities felt injustice and sometimes, get themselves involved in anti-government activities because of such scenario.

In this regard, if a campus of  Indira Gandhi National Tribal University were establish in the region, then it can fill up those vacuums South Assam is an integral part Act East Policy of India It shares borders
with five Northeastern states i.e. Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.

So, if the campus gets established in Dima Hasao district, which is also a tribal dominated area, in Southern Assam then it will benefit the indigenous tribes of the region in particulars and of the other neighboring states in general, it is added.
