Election Commissioner takes stock of poll preparation for council election

Haflong : The State Election Commissioner HN Bora visited Dima Hasao district today to take stock of the preparations for the forthcoming North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council Elections, date of which is to be scheduled in a short while.

Commissioner HN Bora was accompanied by the OSDs Rtd Commissioner & Secy to the Govt of Assam, M Gogoi and Rtd ACS, R Kr. Shome. The Commissioner held series of meetings with the top administrative officials of the NCHAC and police officials in presence of Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa who is also the District Returning Officer of Dima Hasao.

In this regard a meeting was also held with the representatives of different political parties stating the probable date for council election within the month of January next, final date of which will be notified soon. The team headed by the commissioner also took note of few suggestions discussed during the meeting with all political parties for smooth, free and fair elections.

Commissioner H N Bora also suggested that all the necessary documents that maybe applied by the candidates for the nomination of candidature should be attended with outmost importance by the officials at the council as well as in the DC office.

Addressing the media, Commissioner Bora said before coming into any final conclusion regarding the date of council poll, security measures including police availability and official preparedness will be the deciding factors for the final declaration of date. He has also urged the voters of Dima Hasao through the media to come forward and exercise their voting rights.

It is to be noted that the term of the 12th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council was completed on 6th of June 2018 which later was extended for six months till 6th December, 2018. Later as per the directives of the Hon’ble Guwahati High Court, the election procedure is to be completed before February 15th, 2019.
