New Delhi : Anupam Kher, an eminent veteran actor and filmmaker, emphasized the need for Indian cinema to return to authentic storytelling rooted in real emotions and cultural truth while commenting on the changing landscape of the film industry. He views the changing landscape of Indian cinema as an era defined by the rise of authentic, pan-Indian regional storytelling and the diminishing reliance on the traditional star system.

“The audiences now crave meaningful, emotion-driven narratives, pushing the industry to evolve and challenge established industry norms. With the changing evolution of cinema and audience expectations, films succeed only when they genuinely connect with viewers. Most stars nowadays try to play safe, but it is time to reinvent yourself. Cinema must emerge ‘from the heart’ rather than merely chasing commercial trends,” said Mr. Anupam Kher, the eminent actor and filmmaker, while speaking at “Change” – A Conversation with Anupam Kher on Talent, Training & Transformation in Indian Cinema,” organized by FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), an apex body of businesswomen in the country.

“I have consistently expressed deep admiration for women, frequently stating that they are superior to men because they possess the innate power to create life. Women are the foundational pillars of society who shape families and communities,” he said, extending his utmost respect to mothers, sisters, and working women. “My mother and other women have deeply influenced my life through their incredible resilience and strength,” the actor added.

The conversation was moderated by eminent upcoming cine star Shubhangi Dutt and organized under the FLO Performing Arts Initiative, led by Ms. Shikha Sareen, an endeavor that seeks to celebrate and encourage the arts, foster creativity and cultural expression, and create meaningful platforms and conversations for women in the creative ecosystem.

“Some actors entertain us, some impress us, but a rare few quietly become a part of our lives across generations. Anupam Kher ji is undoubtedly one of those rare artists whose work has consistently reflected courage, conviction, and emotional truth,” said Ms. Puja Garg, National President, FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), while speaking on the occasion.

“At FLO, we believe the creative industries are no longer spaces of occasional passion, but powerful industries with enormous economic and leadership potential. Women today are not only visible in front of the camera but are increasingly shaping narratives behind it — as directors, producers, writers, entrepreneurs, and creators,” Ms. Garg added.

The event brought together FLO members, past presidents, creative professionals, entrepreneurs, and aspiring artists for a thought-provoking conversation on cinema, storytelling, resilience, and the evolving role of the creative industries in shaping modern India.

Those present on the occasion included Ms. Abha Dalmia, Past President, FLO; Ms. Ritika Sarna, Governing Body Member, FLO; and Ms. Rashmi Sarita, Secretary General, FLO.
