The first session of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly will begin today and will have four sittings on May 21, 22, 25 and 26.
The proceedings of the House on the opening day will begin with the announcement of the Pro-tem Speaker.
The Governor of Assam has appointed senior BJP MLA Chandra Mohan Patowary as the Pro-tem Speaker. Mr Patowary will administer the oath to the newly elected members of the House.
Later in the day, the election for a full-time Speaker will also be held.
Meanwhile, the State Cabinet approved the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill during its first sitting.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma yesterday said that the UCC Bill will be introduced and passed during the ongoing Assembly session.
